On Monday, the 14th of September, SEACON hosted the first SRI-Mas Econ-business subcommittee meeting to discuss on the financial capacity of SRI-Mas.

To begin, SRI-Mas shared on two recent activities conducted in Kelantan and in Bario. This led up to the question of how to strengthen agro-ecology and agro-tourism in these two communities? The group felt a need for strengthening of infrastructures, in addition to delivery of trainings at the agricultural, touristic and linguistic level.

Moreover, the group highlighted that agricultural and tourist activities are significant for reviving rural communities. This is why trainings are deemed important, and communities must be able to finance them. The group also highlighted that the legislation must guaranteed to communities their proprietary rights on the lands.

The remuneration package delivered to the trainers needs to be realistic to cover the fact that farmers providing trainings, and have to stop their farming activities during that period.
